The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) are a set of regulations created under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 which came into force in Great Britain on 5 December 1998 and replaced a number of other pieces of legislation which previously covered the use of lifting equipment.
Regulation 9 of LOLER requires periodic thorough examination to be carried out by a "competent, impartial person" at an interval of either 6 or 12 months and this is where we can help.
Plant and
Machinery
If a piece of plant is used to lift or lower a load it will then be covered under the regulations of LOLER 98. Plant machinery we regularly inspect include Forklifts, Telehandlers, Excavators, Tail Lifts and Lorry Mounted Cranes. The inspection intervals for plant vary from 6 – 12 months depending if it is used to lift a person.
Proof
Load Testing
Proof load testing can be incorporated in to part of a Thorough Examination or be a standalone test. Proof load testing is usually conducted after a new install / assembly of a crane unit or as part of an examination scheme for anchor points.
